Fostering Spanish Language and Literacy Development

Research-based strategies to provide effective academic language and literacy instruction in Spanish

Workshop Description

This interactive two-day workshop is designed to provide participants with an awareness of Spanish linguistic features to effectively teach academic language and literacy in Spanish to students at all levels of proficiency, framed by an understanding of Spanish language arts standards.

This practitioner-oriented session is intended for K-8 educators who are seeking a foundation in Spanish linguistics and the teaching of Spanish literacy. Educators from a variety of K-8 educational settings where Spanish is the medium of instruction, including developmental and transitional bilingual, heritage language, language immersion, or dual language programs, are welcome.

Participants must be proficient in Spanish and have a working knowledge of English to fully participate in all aspects of the Institute.
